A study of the possible damage in spermatozoid DNA in the ICSI process. Better validation of ICSO as a safe technique.

  • 18-12-2009
On 18 of December the paper, "Does immobilisation of human sperm before ICSI induce DNA damage?", will be presented at the 13th Spanish Society of Cellular Biology Conference. The work is being presented as a research paper as well as the doctoral thesis of our colleague Eva García Hernández.

The research relating to sperm immobilisation and its effect on DNA damage has been developed jointly between the Human Biology department at IB and the University of Alicante.

This discovery can be seen as a further step towards the validation and establishment of ICSI as a safe technique as the results obtained demonstrate clearly that the immobilisation process, prior to its introduction into the oocyte, does not damage the genetic material of the spermatozoid.
