Research is our lifeline. Each and every step is an accomplishment in prognosis for patients who have all the odds against them. In its October edition, Human Fertility, the prestigious scientific magazine mentioned research work undertaken exclusively by Instituto Bernabeu scientists that opens the doors to accelerating diagnosis in patients who have experienced implantation failure and recurrent pregnancy loss. It also helps prognosis with a view to providing early treatment for these patients.

The study is entitled ‘Prevalence of candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms on p53, IL-11, IL-10, VEGF and APOE in patients with repeated implantation failure (RIF) and pregnancy loss (RPL)’ and it has discovered certain genetic variants that have an increased presence in these patients.

Instituto Bernabeu has had Implantation Failure and Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Units for the last decade. The approach is interdisciplinary through work groups that include endocrinologists, molecular biologists, geneticists and embryologists, as well as gynaecologists with specialist training in fertility. Following years of work and progress in this field, Instituto Bernabeu has taken another step forward thanks to research work that has identified the genetic variants that have an impact on implantation failure and recurrent pregnancy loss.
