Instituto Bernabeu will present a clinical trial on embryo observation at the National Reproduction Biology Congress in Madrid

  • 22-11-2017

A team of researchers at Instituto Bernabeu has completed a prospective randomised clinical trial aimed at understanding if selection of an embryo generated during a cycle of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) is possible when morphological development is observed just once over the days leading up to transfer. The results of the research work will be presented at the national congress organised by the Association for the Study of Reproduction Biology due to be held in Madrid between 15th and 17th November.

The researchers worked on the basis that in a cycle of IVF the embryo is usually observed on several occasions and that it has to be removed from the incubator so that morphology development can be examined. This may generate changes to temperature, pH and alterations in the growth medium itself.

The research team compared laboratory and clinical results of embryo observation on day 5 with the results of observation on days 2, 3 and 5 and found that clinical results were similar in both cases.

Una única observación en D5 es suficiente para evaluar los embriones en un programa de ovodonación; resultados finales de un ensayo controlado aleatorio prospectivo y doble ciego.
