New scientific publication on pregnancy chromosome screening in pregnancies after assisted reproduction.

  • 21-07-2011
Last April the journal, "Progress in Obstetrics and Gynaecology" published a recent study by our team entitled "chromosomal screening in the third quarter - results in pregnancies after assisted reproduction".

Objective

The aim of this study is to test the effectiveness of the combined test for aneuploidy in the first quarter compared to spontaneous pregnancies and pregnancies achieved through assisted reproduction techniques (ART).

Material and methods

The retrospective study was applied to a pool of 1,675 first trimester screening performed at our centre, including plasma protein associated with pregnancy (PAPP-A) and the free fraction of the β sub-unit of human chorionic gonadotropin (free β-hCG), maternal age and the nuchal translucency (NT). Of the total, 1,299 were spontaneous pregnancies (77.5%) and 376 pregnancies through ART (22.5%).

The cut-off for recommending an invasive test was 1 / 270.
