What are sexually transmitted diseases?

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that are mainly transmitted during unprotected sexual intercourse. However, they can also be transferred from mother to child during pregnancy.

Who generates sexually transmitted diseases?

There are over 30 different types of STDs, most of which are caused by a virus (HIV, human papillomavirus and hepatitis), bacteria (gonorrhoea, syphilis and chlamydia) or fungi (candidiasis).

If infections of this kind are not detected and treated over time, they can lead to couples having serious reproduction issues. The STDs that generally and most frequently cause abnormalities in a person’s reproductive health are ureaplasma, chlamydiamycoplasma and gonorrhoea.

What is the impact of sexually transmitted diseases on fertility?

Infections of this kind that affect both men and women lead to difficulties getting pregnant because they can lead to abnormalities such as obstructions in the fallopian tubes, inflammation in the testes, diminished semen quality and infertility issues of an unknown cause. Furthermore, STDs in pregnant women can lead to pregnancy losses and premature births.

Is it important to take the test? Diagnosis.

Since a large percentage of the population has one STD or another, or even several at once, it is essential that PREVENTIVE checks are performed in order to avoid diseases leading to serious fertility issues.
